The DfE's Standard for teachers’ professional development states that ...

 Part 2 – Professional development should be underpinned by robust evidence and expertise

 Professional development is most effective when informed by robust evidence, which can be from a range of sources. In particular, effective professional development:

  • develops practice and theory together;
  • links pedagogical knowledge with subject/specialist knowledge;
  • draws on the evidence base, including high-quality academic research, and robustly evaluated approaches and teaching resources;
  • is supported by those with expertise and knowledge to help participants improve their understanding of evidence; and,
  • draws out and challenges teachers’ beliefs and expectations about teaching and how children learn.

On this course you will apply the latest knowledge of academic theory, research and the science of learning to develop your skills as a classroom practitioner.  In line with the most recent developments in Initial Teacher Training Early Career Framework (ITTECF), this course supports the ongoing professional learning and development of classroom practitioners, to ensure that all classroom practice is informed by the most recent developments in educational theory of learning and best practice methods.

Throughout the year you will engage in relevant reading and academic research, and then, through our synchronous online and face-to-face events, you will develop high level skills in best practice techniques to support the development of pedagogical content knowledge within your classroom practice.  This course is designed to create a sustained programme of learning across an academic year.
